The Community Food Pantry for the North Scott District was established in 1976 by representatives of three churches in the North Scott District. Now nine churches in the North Scott District are involved in the Food Pantry to help individuals and families in need of food in the North Scott District, who are unable to obtain food
from the usual county, state, and federal agencies because of unusual circumstances, on a one-time basis, or until a permanent arrangement for food can be made. Because of loss of jobs, low paying jobs, unexpected illnesses, car accidents or other unusual situations, there are people in the North Scott District who are in need of obtaining food from the pantry.
Supplying and stocking the Food Pantry is from donations and purchases from civic and business organizations, individuals, churches, etc. in the form of food, money, and other material items that will be used to support those that are in need.
Even though the churches in the North Scott District have organized and maintain the Food Pantry, they would like to welcome the community to also become involved by donating non-perishable foods to help the pantry stay stocked.
The Food Hunger Drive collection by the surrounding schools (including NSHS) is stored in a warehouse for distribution to Quad City area food pantries at a cost
per pound if the food pantries run out of food from donations. The North Scott Food Pantry is run from donations from school functions, boy/girl scout troops, clubs, business organizations and individuals and cash donations, and not by purchasing it from the Food Hunger Drive warehouse.
By not purchasing food from the warehouse and relying on donations from the
North Scott area, we save money for our own pantry to buy meat, potatoes,
bread, margarine, milk, and eggs for our clients. Each month we check the
shelves to see which items are needed the most.
If you, as a community would like to donate any non-perishable items to the pantry, the donation location is the McCausland United Methodist Church.
Items can be brought in on most Wednesday's when the Pastor is there (the
number is 225-6161) or on Sunday mornings between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. A basket is set up inside the north door if anyone wishes to donate. If these times are not accommodating to you, you can call one of the representatives from the church to pick up your donation.
The representatives are Marlys Busch at 225-6871 or Jane Mumm at 285-9170.
Each month a list of what is needed for that month will be posted. Also a general list of what is given to the clients when they come into the pantry will be posted at a later date to give you an idea of the types of food or non-food items to
donate.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and hopefully the whole community in the McCausland area will get involved with others less fortunate.
